McKENNA PETERSON | Sun Valley, ID
McKenna is the quintessential ‘ski bum’. A former Freeskiing World Tour competitor, McKenna spends most of her winter backcountry skiing and chasing snow. She works on a fishing boat in Alaska during the summer months to continue to have winters off. McKenna has 12 years of backcountry skiing experience with extensive trips around the world. She has worked with world renowned mountain photographers and has been a part of multiple film projects including Warren Miller, Pretty Faces and Stellar Migrations. McKenna skied first descents in Iceland and Greenland while on an all female expedition, aiming to bring awareness to the effects of climate change on the Greenlandic ice sheet. She is a passionate ambassador for The Climate Reality Project. Somewhere between traveling the world and commercial fishing, McKenna has found time to complete a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of Utah and is a certified Wilderness First Responder. She enjoys documenting her adventures and has had writing published in BombSnow Magazine, BigLife Magazine, National Geographic Adventure, SKI magazine, among others.

What do you have lined up for this season? Trips? Filming?
This season will be mostly dedicated to an Idaho based film project that I am co-producing with my brother, Axel. Keep an eye out for it at next year’s film festivals.
Where’s your favorite place to ski?
My favorite resort is Alta. My favorite backcountry zone is around the Sun Valley area.
I want to ski in the Himalaya, just to lay eyes on those incredible mountains would be inspiring.
What are a few of your favorite songs on your “skin track” or “powder day” playlist?
No music for me while skiing. I like the sound that my skis make on the snow.
What inspires you? People? Places? Books? Film? Music? Athletes? Where do you look for inspiration?
I find my inspiration in wild places -from mountain ranges to forests to the ocean.
What are your Corbeaux go-tos, and why? When and how do you wear Corbeaux to layer?
My #1 favorite base layer in the world is my Silkyway Long Sleeve. It’s so comfortable that I put it on and never want to take it off. I also spent a lot of time in the Everyday Tee this summer! Perfect for trail running.
If you aren’t skiing, where can we find you? What do you do during non-winter months?
My “big kid job” is working on a commercial fishing boat in Alaska. I wear my Silverqueen Long Sleeve tops while on the boat, they are rugged and can last a full day of hard work.
1 piece of gear (skis, boots, base layers, goggles, anything) that you cannot live without?
Who are your other sponsors?
SCOTT sports, K2 Skis, Backcountry Access, Voke Tab, Xtratuf boots
